May 15 Purchase textbooks, Harty's Cinema Arthuriana 2nd ed (hereafter CA) and White's The Once and Future King. Get started on book I of White to discuss in class on Thursday. Discuss the class and its requirements. Go over the historical background of Arthur. Watch and discuss Healy, The Legend of King Arthur in Literature and Popular Culture. Watch Freleng, Knighty-Knight, Bugs (1958) to use for class discussion tomorrow.
May 16 CA: Harty, "Cinema Arthuriana: An Overview," and Raymond Thompson, "Conceptions of King Arthur in the Twentieth Century."  Discuss the historical Arthur and the 20th century. Discuss watching film to write about it. Discuss the Preview for Fuqua's King Arthur.
May 17 Last Day to change S/U status for Maymester. Keep reading White. Watch and discuss Fuqua, King Arthur. Ioan Grufudd in "King Arthur"
May 18 CA : Helmut Nickel, Arms and Armor in Arthurian Films." Complete Book I of White ("The Sword in the Stone") by today. Discuss Fuqua. Begin discussion of Arthurian fantasy.  Discuss T. H. White and the Preview for Disney's The Sword in the Stone.
May 19 CA: Raymond Thompson, "The Ironic Tradition in Four Arthurian Films" and Alice Grellner, "Two Films That Sparkle: The Sword in the Stone and Camelot."

May 22 CA: Michael Torregrossa, "Will the 'Reel' Mordred Please Stand Up?" and start reading T.S. Eliot's The Waste Land  to discuss on Wednesday. (Here's an alternate online edition of Eliot that is hyperlinked with notes.)
Short paper 1 due. Discuss Disney. Arthur and major supporting players in the legend.
