1. Go to this website to learn more about ethnographic research (a qualitative method) http://www.ethnographic-research.com/pdf/whatisethnography.pdf With the help of the person next to you, try to come up with answers to the following questions:
What is ethnography?
How is ethnography different from/similar to other types of social science research?
What is the difference between doing ethnography and simply observing?
What is triangulation and why is it important?
What is this company's process for doing ethnography?
Why is it important to have a theoretical framework for a project?
After everyone finishes, we’ll discuss. You may skip to #2 if you are done early. You are free to work together.
2. Explore some basic qualitative terminology. The primary focus is on qualitative paradigms which we will focus on in class on Wed. If you’ve read chapter 10, this will be a good check of your reading comprehension. If you are behind in your reading, this can help you know what to pay attention to.
