NUTR 480 Dietetics Management

Spring 2008      Room: 345 LSCIIi     Class time: 9-9:50 MWF  9-9

Students are required to be available during class times.  Do not schedule work, doctor appointments or other activities during our regularly scheduled class time.

 

Required for Spring 2008:

1.IDNT Reference Manual: Standardized Language for the Nutrition Care Process. American Dietetic Association. Third edition available September 2007. Cost to student members of ADA is $15.00 plus shipping and handling. NOTE: Order as soon as possible!  Dr. S  has been waiting for a month and still does not have her copy (November 2007)

2. Introduction to Foodservice 10th Ed. June Payne-Palacio, Monica Theis (NUTR 371-required text).
3. Foodservice Organizations: A Managerial and Systems Approach, 6th Edition. Marian C. Spears, Mary Gregoire. Publisher: Pearson Prentice Hall  (NUTR 471 required text)

 

During Spring 2008, Dietetics Management will be taught as a WebCT-enhanced (almost asynchronous) course.  Here is the WebCT course site; use the log in name and password provided in class

 

NUTR 480 is a senior capstone course in which students discuss and apply management and communication principles and theories to clinical and community nutrition practice.  Coursework includes clinical pathways evidence-based practice, use of the American Dietetic Association's Evidence Analysis Library, and nutrition care process (assessment, diagnosis, intervention and and monitoring).  Learning strategies will include simulations, case studies, group and individual work, examinations, self-assessment and peer-review. Student  knowledge and skills will be evaluated using multiple methods (examinations, projects, group and individual work).      

 

All course materials (syllabus, assignment instructions, rubrics, templates, course calendar, etc.) are communicated electronically using WebCT and our Winthrop university class list serve.  Names of registered students will be uploaded into our WebCT course site by the first day of the academic term. Students are required to activate their Winthrop email accounts in order to have their names uploaded into our WebCT course site.  Student passwords are distributed during the first class meeting. Registered students are required to use their Winthrop email addresses. Dr. Silagyi-Rebovich will not respond to course inquiries persons using non-Winthrop email addresses.

 

No incompletes or extensions are permitted.

Course Requirements:  Students are encouraged to become student-members of The American Dietetic Association (ADA).  Students will be expected to access the Evidence Analysis Library online (free to members) and purchase at least one book on nutrition care process, available to student members of ADA at greatly reduced prices. 

TURNITIN: Students will use TURNITIN for submission of writing assignments.
