NUTR 607 Research Methods in Human Nutrition

NUTR 607 course description
Research design, methods, and statistical
procedures knowledge and skills are discussed in the context of
human nutrition. Students' are evaluated using
examinations, projects, group and individual work. Course materials (syllabus,
assignment instructions, rubrics, templates, course calendar, etc.)
are transmitted electronically using WebCT and our Winthrop
university class list serve. Names of
registered students will be uploaded into our WebCT course site the
first day of the academic term. Students are required to activate
their Winthrop email accounts in order to have their names uploaded
into our WebCT course site. Student passwords are
distributed during the first class meeting. Registered students are required to use
their Winthrop email addresses. Dr. Silagyi-Rebovich will not
respond to course inquiries persons using non-Winthrop
email addresses.

incompletes or extensions are permitted.
Learning
and evaluation strategies Minimal
lecturing, weekly student presentations and discussions, examinations,
culminating project (research proposal -due the week after Thanksgiving), all
students will complete two online tutorials, one for IRB/Human Subjects, the
other for ADA's EAL. Requirements
and resources Students
need to be members of the American Dietetic Association to access the full
Evidence Analysis Library for our assignments and in-class activities. Textbook Students
need our textbook by week two of the academic term. The current (6th) edition
of Mitchell and Jolley's Research Design Explained is adopted; a textbook on statistical procedures is
recommended but not required. Free, online public-access statistics
resources are available.
TURNITIN: Students will use TURNITIN
for submission of writing assignments.
