Country Case Study Paper

DUE NOVEMBER 5.

A concept paper requires you to select one of the theoretical concepts we will be discussing in the course and apply it to your country of choice. You will make your argument through a thesis statement.

Country

You should choose a less developed country to study in more depth. The country you choose should be different than those we study in class.

Concept

Your paper should begin with an underlined thesis statement. A thesis statement makes an argument. An argument involves logical reasoning, scientific research, and empirical evidence; it is not a mere opinion.

After your thesis statement, you should show me that you understand the concept’s meaning and the various ways it has been used within the study of Comparative Politics. A good way to do this would be an explanation in your own words and examples from your book or other sources.

Application

Then, you need to apply the concept to your country case study, i.e. does your country fit into the model/concept that you described? Why or why not? What factors are influencing your country?

Requirements

Your paper must start off with a title page including your name, date and title of your paper. Then it should have at least five full pages of text, with a maximum of seven full pages. Use standard margins and Times New Roman 12 pt. font. Your thesis statement should be underlined.

You must use at least four sources of research, including books, articles and other international reports.  You may use one internet source. You must use at least one scholarly journal article and one book among your sources. The United Nations Human Development Report, CIA Factbook and other Country Reports may be useful.

Some information may be available on the internet. If you use an internet source you must cite the web address in your bibliography like any other, so that I may go to the source myself and check it out. BE CAREFUL of using non-scholarly internet sources like Wikipedia. You can read this for background information but you SHOULD NOT cite this in a scholarly research paper.
