Born in Monongahela, Pennsylvania, raised in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
Educated at West Virginia University, College of William and Mary, and Virginia Tech, with stops along the way at Waynesburg College and Christopher Newport College.
Immigrated to South Carolina in 1976.
Married to Susan Faye Harry, of Jefferson, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Jane, and four grandchildren.
Hobbies: Grandkids and family; and in decreasing order of significance: fly fishing, walking (only because I can’t run any more), camping, hiking, quail and grouse hunting, music (big band, early jazz, classical, rock and roll until about 1959, gospel), reading (mostly history, but also science, math, biography, current events) and old movies.
