Research Outcomes
While formal language learning assessment can be elusive for preschool age groups, the striking result was strong retention of vocabulary. This was unique because most of the preschoolers had no exposure to Spanish speaking in their homes and because even after three months of break between the Spring and Fall semesters, returning students remembered their vocabulary and came back eager to learn more. There is no literature in this area; some writings on early childhood ESL instruction track similar strength in language vocabulary retention. Multi-year follow-up will include language skills demonstrated by the preschoolers following the program and examination of the student-teachers' project portfolios and coursework.
