Group Presentations on Historical Periods

Each group will overview a specific historical period and relate it to the work we have read in class from that period.  In other words, how does that literary work represent that time period?   Below are areas to address and research to help you cover the period. Members of the group should research from reliable sources as well as cite material from the introductions from the book.

Each group member must speak when presenting to class, and each group member will turn in a typed letter to me detailing his or her contributions to creating the overview right after the presentation.

Length of presentation:  about five minutes.

Document due:  the group will attach a typed version of the presentation in a Word document and email it to me so that I can post it on the website for the rest of class.  The typed version should be from 2-3 pages in length.  One member of the group must submit this document to turnitin.  And don't forget to complete a Work Cited entry for all sources  cited in the document; follow MLA guidelines.

Areas to cover for presentation ( some of these areas may not be applicable to all periods) :

1.       Role of faith, spirituality.

2.       Concept of education

3.       Role of writers/scribes.  How did they earn a living?

4.       Kind of government, and how much power does government/King has?

5.       Role of women

6.       View of social classes

7.       What was size of known world?

8.       Who were the primary enemies of specific country/society?

9.       What are the major literary forms and genres?  What are the major developments in literary forms/techniques/ genres in this period?

10.   Dominate types of architecture/ art.

11.   Be sure to specify the approximate beginning and ending of the historic period.
