T	Jan 20	Remen, pp. xv-xxxii and 1-31. J (Journal prompt): What stories have helped you to live/survive? Important: all journal entries should be at least a page long. Assigning chapters from Poetic Medicine.
R	Jan 22	Remen, pp. 35-71, and pp.75-102. In-class workshop (dress comfortably) J: How do you deal with loss? How do you deal with pain?
T	Jan 27	In-class workshop, expressive arts. (dress comfortably) Remen, pp. 105-135. J: How have you experienced death, and your reflections about the experiences. Discussion about final research paper; annotated bibliography assignment given.
R	Jan 29	Remen, pp. 139-166 and 169-214. J: Your choice--respond to what you choose from the reading. But you must develop your reflection with words as well as with a visual choice--colors, drawing, collaging from magazines and other sources online. R	Feb 5	No class, but you will receive extra credit for attending one or both presentations by poet Derick Burleson who lives in Alaska. He will give a talk during Common time, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM on Thursday in Owens 101. He will give a poetry reading from 7:00-8:00 PM on Thursday at the Little Chapel . You will receive GLI and Cultural Events credit for both events.

R	Feb 13	Turning in poems from Chapter 2. Guest speaker: Lee Miller. She will speak about developing life stories.
T	Feb 17	Over-view of history of expressive arts. Sharing poems from Chapter 2. Due: Annotated bibliography--hard copy in class as well as a copy turned in to turnitin.

R	Apr 23	Meet at Winthrop. Poems from Chapter 8 due. Review final paper; discuss final exam activities. As part of the final exam, everyone will read Chapter 9 from Poetic Medicine, select a poem exercise to complete, and present and turn in the poem at final exam.
