Audience Analysis
This
report outlines the different audiences my feasibility study will address and
why they are important to the execution of on-campus storage of club and
organization funds.
Primary
Audience
Regarding my
study on on-campus storage, the primary audience is Alex Miller, the Assistant
Director for Student Activities and Leadership. He works hands-on with the
student body, specifically with those in clubs and organizations. His purpose is
to ensure not only the academic and social success of the student body, but also
to ensure their well-being. Being that Mr. Miller is so involved with students
and what impacts them, he is often not in his office, but he can be reached
successfully through email or even just passing by.
Because
I’m in several student organizations, I have encountered Alex Miller on several
occasions and know what his concerns would be regarding an endeavor like
on-campus storage. First, he wants to make sure that the project will fully
benefit the targeted group of the student body. He would also like to know that
the facility would be taken advantage of and would not be a monetary loss to the
university. For this audience, I would have to include information that shows
that the students would benefit from this project through safety and experience
and also that they would actually utilize it. I can present this information
through analysis of the survey results showing the demand for the facility.
Secondary Audience
With this project,
Billy Dahlgren, Assistant Director and Space Use Manager of the DiGiorgio Campus
Center would be in charge of
implementing the endeavor in all aspects. Alex Miller, the primary audience, would turn to him for insight on the
logistics of the project and exactly how it would be implemented. Because Mr.
Dahlgren is in charge of everything that happens in the student center, his
expertise would be required.
Billy
Dahlgren’s concern for this project would be that its space use is efficient and
effective. Because the building is new, he would also be concerned about any
building codes that have to be honored during a possible construction. He also
would be interested in whether this endeavor fits into the fixed budget. To convince this audience, I would have to include innovative ways to
achieve the storage by using the resources already available.
Tertiary Audience
In
this case, the audience who would benefit from on-campus storage is the students in organizations and clubs on campus. If
this project is feasible, this audience will benefit from having a safe and
convenient place to store their club funds.
The
topic for the study came from students in organizations having difficulty
storing and maintaining club funds. I will use the true stories from incidents
that have occurred with this group to successfully communicate the necessity of
this endeavor to the primary and tertiary audiences.
