Goals: The purpose of the course is to explore modes of learning and knowing that derive more from intuitive processes than from more traditional Western approaches to knowledge and its acquisition. Areas to be considered are aspects of mythology, religion, psychology, dreams, and the creative process.
Each student will choose a specific topic within one (and sometimes more) of these areas of investigation, which will result in a scholarly paper or a creative project, as well as an oral presentation. Topics and approaches will be discussed in class. Guest speakers will visit the class in conjunction, as much as possible, with the readings. There will be a mid-term and a final exam, each counting 40% of the grade. The paper or creative project, presented in both written form and as a presentation to the class, will count 20 %.
