These are four sample cover letters for WRIT 102 portfolios. Here is the scoring system I use to score the cover letters:
Cover Letter Scoring:
0 Inadequate letter; may not meet assignment, go into detail, or be appropriately edited and presented.
1 Thin attention to global and local concerns; little or no reflection on strengths and weaknesses. Typically dominated by narrative
2 Some attention to global and local concerns; some reflection on overall strengths and weaknesses. More analytical than narrative.
3 Significant attention to global and local concerns; thoughtful analytical reflection on strengths, weaknesses, and future goals.
Note: Scores assume that writing is virtually error-free. Significant execution errors will lower score by 1 point
Once you have reviewed the assignment, look at these four letters and assign them a score based on the rubric above. We will discuss them in class, so if you don't want to print them out, please take detailed notes about the strengths and weaknesses of each letter.
