WRIT 566 REVISION POLICY

If you make a grade of B- or below on a short assignment, you are required to revise it substantively; just fixing mistakes does NOT constitute revision. Substantial revision means that you must do a lot more than just correcting any errors in the first version (though of course those should be fixed). Re-vision means re-seeing, re-conceptualizing, re-attacking what you have done. You might change

If you only fix the execution errors in the original, or if you make substantive revisions but introduce significant new errors, your revision grade will be D.

If you correct the execution errors and make only cosmetic revisions, your revision grade will be no higher than C.

To get an excellent revision grade, you must really make an effort that shows.

I will give you a date for submitting these revisions (usually the second class period after an assignment is returned); there are no extensions on revision due dates.

Assignments that receive a B- or above on the first draft do not need to be revised. If you choose to revise these assignments, I will be happy to evaluate them again. However, you must meet the deadlines for revisions; you can't just wait till the end of the semester and then decide belatedly to revise.

I will put number grades on an original and up to two revisions of such assignments and average the grades; if you want to revise an assignment even further, I will be happy to help you with it. You have the option of revising other graded written assignments. You have one week after a graded assignment is returned to submit revisions. If I receive no revisions after a week for a graded assignment, your revision grade is zero, and that will be averaged in with your first draft grade. Please see the syllabus for a description of letter grades and their numerical equivalents.

When you return a revision, you must attach it to the original version to make it easier for a reader to see the changes you have made. Revisions submitted without the original(s) will receive a grade of zero.

The people who have the most problems with revisions are those who made high C grades or B_ grades on the original. You’ve already got a version that can "get by" and will have to challenge yourself to do better. But that’s what differentiates between the okay employees and the ones who excel, so start developing those habits now!
