SUBJECT:    CAFETERIA PRICING

After the introduction of the salad bar at the subsidized cafeteria at the Columbus Avenue facility it was noticed that charging a fixed cost for a salad resulted in some employees paying the same price for two pounds of salad as those taking 8 oz. In order to have everyone be charged for only the amount of salad they take, scales were added to the cash register. At the time, it was not possible for an adjustment to be made to the scales to deduct the weight of the bowls so a price of $.12 an ounce was established as a fair sales price. This has caused some annoyance to some people who feel that there should be a deduction for the bowl weight and have started using Styrofoam cups in an attempt to get the most for the least. Since it is only right that everyone pay the same, the Styrofoam cups and any other unusual bowls will not be accepted by the cashier without being weighed WITH our standard salad bowl.

An appointment has been scheduled for the scale manufacturer to come in and, if possible, make an adjustment to the scales to deduct the weight of both small (brown) and large (black) bowls so that everyone will be charged for the contents only. Once this is accomplished the price will be increased to an amount that will cover the company’s cost.

For those who would still like to "beat the system," there is always McDonald’s.
