The following questions may help you make your analysis of Oral Presentation #2 more comprehensive; use them as guidelines, but don’t be slaves to them. They are meant to guide your viewing and your self-assessment. Feel free to comment on anything else you think was important in the presentation. Remember, again, that your goal is to make a plan for further improvement! Remember to compare this performance to Oral Presentation #1. Your assessment should take the form of an e-mail of at least three paragraphs, well-organized and edited, sent to Dr. K by March 29.

What was the best element of your presentation this time? What was the weakest element?

Did you make eye and verbal contact with the whole room? Could you have done anything different in this regard? Do you feel this was improved from last time?

How would you characterize your presenter’s manner--calm, confident, nervous, etc.? Did this change over the course of the presentation? If so, when and why? Do you feel this was improved from last time?

Were there any verbal or physical distractors ("uhh", rocking back and forth, hand gestures, etc.) that might have distracted your audience from following the presentation?

Did your presentation have a clear structure and point out the key points the audience should remember? Do you think they "got the message"?

If you were presenting a piece of research by someone else, how clearly do you think you got their ideas across? Did the audience understand whose work you were presenting?

How well do you feel you managed your time? Why? Do you feel this was improved from last time? What part(s) of the presentation give you most difficulty with pacing? Did you use a storyboard, and if so, did this help?

How well do you feel you used your visual aids? How did they look on the screen or board? Did they illustrate a clear point for your audience? Were you able to use them without turning your back on the audience?

Now that you have seen yourself present, what kinds of changes, different strategies, or improvements do you want to make in your future oral performances? Make specific statements about what you have to work on.

Compared to your first performance, what changes do you notice?
