WRIT 465 MW Class Salad Bar Memo Solutions

  1. From the group of Courtney Harrison, Denise Williams, Shanetta Posey, Amanda Bacik, and Tabitha Cousar:

Scales were added to the cash register to avoid overcharges for salads.  $.12 per ounce was the established price and only standard salad bowls will be accepted.

If the scale manufacturer can deduct the weight of the bowls, the price will increase to cover the company’s cost.

  2. The fixed cost for salads resulted in employees paying the same for different amounts of salad. In order to remedy this, scales were added to the cash register. It was not possible to adjust the scales to deduct the bowl weight so a fair price of $.12 an ounce was established. Some people feel a deduction for the bowl weight is needed and have started using Styrofoam cups in an attempt to avoid this extra cost. So that everyone pays the same, ALL salads must be weighed WITH our standard salad bowl.

The scale manufacturers are trying to make an adjustment to the scales to deduct the weight of both bowls so that everyone will be charged for the contents only. The price will also be increased to cover the company’s cost.

For those who would still like to "beat the system," there is always McDonald’s.

  3. The cafeteria facility noticed employees paying the same price for two pounds of salad as those taking 8 oz. Scales were added to the register to regulate costs. Since the scales cannot deduct the weight of the bowl a price of $.12 per ounce was established.  Some people are annoyed with this change and are using Styrofoam dishes. To insure that everyone pays the same, the Styrofoam dishes will be weighed with our standard salad bowl.

The scale manufacturer will try to make an adjustment to the scales to deduct the weight of both small and large bowls so everyone will be charged for the contents only. Once accomplished, the price will be increased to cover the company’s cost.
