Dear Chief Jordan,
I am a student here
at Winthrop University. I have been a resident on campus for the four years, and
I am very active in many activities and organizations. The majority of the
activities and meetings I attend are at night. I am concerned about the safety
on campus at night.
I was referred to
you by Cindy Cassens, director of Residence Life. She informed me that your
department is currently working to improve the safety on campus at Winthrop
University. I would like to know exactly what your department is doing to
improve the safety. I have suggestions to aid you in your efforts. Have you
thought about brighter lights? What type of bulb is used for nightlights on
campus?
If possible I
would like to set up an appointment with you to discuss these suggestions for
improvement. I can be contact at 3232323 (Phelps) or e-mail zzhoopsb.
Sincerely,
Bobby Hoops

Dear Tom:
As part of my proposal that we discussed, I am doing a survey of student leaders
in clubs and organizations at Winthrop. I would like to know if a one-page
survey can be sent to student club and organization presidents and student
contacts through campus mail.
The survey will seek to find the following information:
$ how students feel about campus clubs and organizations
$ how much clubs and organizations interact with each other
$ whether student leaders are interested in increasing interaction between clubs and organizations
Through the survey I hope to gain not only insights for my project but also information of interest to our department. If the survey cannot be sent through campus mail, would it be possible for me to mail the survey personally and have it returned to the DSU office? Please reply tonight through e-mail to let me know the best method, and again, thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Sachs:
As an active member of the ATA, I am always on the lookout for ways to serve our organization. In conjunction with work I am doing for a class at Winthrop University, I am currently involved in the design of a program to help my chapter, the Carolina Association of Translators and Interpreters [CATI], achieve its ongoing goals of increasing membership and raising public visibility. I hope I may have your help.
My project requires me to learn how other associations handle the issue of membership growth, and what they do to promote the status of translators. Any information you can share with me on this subject will be invaluable. Since my research must be completed by the end of next month, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you by October 28. If this is not possible, can you refer me to any other sources or contact persons? You can reach me (or my voice mail) at any time at the above telephone and/or fax numbers.
I look forward to your input on this project and thank you for considering my request.
Sincerely,
