Audience Analysis Grid
This assignment doesn
=t ask you to write a letter or a memo; rather, it asks you to work out a rhetorical strategy for developing and eventually organizing your big report by answering two sets of questions. The left-hand column of the grid asks you to create some specific descriptions of your primary and secondary audience(s); the right hand column asks you to make some rhetorical decisions based on those descriptions. A sample filled-out grid is provided for your reference. You may have to do some investigating (for instance interviews, phone calls) to fill out the left-hand side. You should also look under the topic
AAudience Analysis@ in PH section 4b and at the materials in the textbook (see the Index) and handout packet.Students who have taken this assignment seriously in the past have found it very helpful in developing their rough drafts and final papers. Students who have
Ablown it off@ or left it till the last minute have tended to receive much lower grades on their final papers. A word to the wise should be sufficient. You may either neatly handwrite your answers or retype the form
Bwhatever is easier for you. Submit 2 copies of the filled out formBone for me to grade and return, the other for me to keep and use when grading your big report.Click here to go to the grid.
