bulletBrief Biography: I am the youngest of two children. My Mom was a housewife and my Dad was a mechanic and part-time farmer. I was raised on a small farm outside a small town in central Minnesota.  I spent the first 18 years of my life trying to get off that small farm and far away from that small town. I succeeded when I moved to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) to attend college. I have degrees from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and the Carl Albert Center at the University of Oklahoma. I am also a graduate of the Coro Foundation Fellows program. I came to Winthrop University in 1994 after working as a health policy analyst for Families USA in Washington DC. I have been department chair since November 2000. Today, I live in Rock Hill with my husband, my two children and my dog. In my spare time, I like to play with my kids, go to the movies, travel, play the piano (I'm terrible), play the flute (I'm not bad), and dabble in the garden.
