Research and Areas of Interest:
I am formally trained as a congressional scholar, and have studied
several aspects of congressional communication. My dissertation was
published as Media Entrepreneurs and the Media Enterprise in the US
Congress (1996, Hampton Press ). I am currently working on a study
of media coverage of Representative Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US
House of Representatives. In addition, I have an interest in health
policy and women's issues. I have complete two major studies of cancer
policy in the US [Kedrowski and Sarow, Cancer Activism (2007,
University of Illinois Press)] and breastfeeding rights in the US
[Kedrowski and Lipscomb, Breastfeeding Rights in the US, (2008,
Praeger Publishers).

| Brief Biography: I am the youngest of two children. My Mom was a housewife and my Dad was a mechanic and part-time farmer. I was raised on a small farm outside a small town in central Minnesota. I spent the first 18 years of my life trying to get off that small farm and far away from that small town. I succeeded when I moved to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) to attend college. I have degrees from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and the Carl Albert Center at the University of Oklahoma. I am also a graduate of the Coro Foundation Fellows program. I came to Winthrop University in 1994 after working as a health policy analyst for Families USA in Washington DC. I have been department chair since November 2000. Today, I live in Rock Hill with my husband, my two children and my dog. In my spare time, I like to play with my kids, go to the movies, travel, play the piano (I'm terrible), play the flute (I'm not bad), and dabble in the garden. |
