Response 4  Writing 101  Spring 2009

Explain how Dillard constructs good sentences in the paragraph beginning “Where Tinker Creek flows . . .” on 696.  Deal with each sentence separately.  Explain how she uses images/details to make each sentence interesting.  For example the core of the first sentence is “it is slow and shallow” or perhaps the core is “it is”.  Point out the places where she uses interesting verbs.  Give examples of these verbs.  Also explain how she obtains sentence variety by explaining how she uses different types of sentences and making some observations about the length of the sentences.
