Dr. DeRochi
CRTW 201
Fast Food Nation Exploratory Paper
Due Date: 5:00, Friday, December 9

The final paper of the course this semester will ask you to further develop your critical thinking skills by entering a debate / conversation raised by Schlosser's Fast Food Nation.  The length of this paper will be 6-8 pages, and will incorporate 4 outside sources (this may include the book itself).

The Assignment: First, review Schlosser's summation and proposals in the Epilogue ("Have it Your Way"), beginning specifically on page 262 under "What to do" subheading.  Read through and consider all the proposals Schlosser is suggesting for altering our cultural, economic, and dietary landscape going forward.  Second, your paper is simple to conceive.  Choose one of his proposals and answer the following question: to what extent to you agree or disagree with Schlosser's proposal regarding "X"?  Your paper should be a  6-8 page argument (yes, addressing opposition with concession and / or refutation somewhere during the paper) in which you explain the reasons for your position.  Make sure to establish the importance of your question at issue (in this case, the efficacy of Schlosser's proposal) early in your paper, making sure we see your specific stance.  Prove your argument using sufficient evidence from Schlosser's book, your own research, and your own experiences and observations.

You are required to incorporate 4 sources.  Be sure to use MLA Documentation--consult the library webpage or your Prentice Hall Guide to Grammar and Usage for guidelines.

In addition, so as to reward those who develop their critical thinking process as preparation of this final paper, students will be required to submit a Critical Thinking Worksheet for this assignment.  Simply use this to document your filters and elements of reasoning--this can be report-style writing, not beautiful prose.

Grading: 90% of your grade will stem from the final paper; 10% from the critical thinking worksheet.

Submit the Critical Thinking Worksheet along with your paper to turnitin.com by the deadline.  Make sure that the 2 documents are separated; start each on a new page in other words.

***While you will be submitting your paper via turnitin.com, be sure to bring a print out of your argument to the final exam.
