Assignment: Write a 2 page summary of "Sleep Debt and the Mortgaged Mind" (WRAC 537-544) by William C. Dement and Christopher Vaughan, following the guidelines box on pp. 7-8 of WRAC. Be sure to refer to CUBI if you quote directly from the article. Append a "Work Cited" page to your summary.

Due Date:  Thursday, September 10, 2009

1. Begin your summary with a paraphrase of Dement and Vaughan’s thesis statement.

2. Because it will be clear early in your summary that you are paraphrasing, it will not be necessary for you to parenthetically cite every reference to the article.

3. However, if you quote directly, you should introduce and cite the quotation correctly.

4. If you need to go a bit over the required length, avoid going over by more than 2-3 sentences. Remember that summaries are noted for their brevity.

5. Summaries must meet the length requirement. Summaries that do not meet the length requirement will earn failing grades.

6. Remember that one important characteristic of summaries is their objectivity. Your opinions and points of view should not be a part of your summary.
