Honors Presentation Guidelines

 

You will be assigned a working partner(s) with whom you will research one of many "entry points" into the Potterverse:

  1. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal & possibly other “real life” experiences like tours in London;
  2. HP Legos, Xbox, and other toys; Caroline, James, & Rebecca
  3. fan fiction &/or other fiction spin offs like Puppet Pals and A Very Potter Musical; Alissa, Delaney, & Faith
  4. JK Rowling's fiction spin-offs, including Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and the upcoming movie
  5. cosplay (especially at gatherings like Dragon Con, which has hosted HP panels in the past) and/or Quidditch teams around the world. Dylan and Sarah

Your assignment is to research the real world aspects of this entry point into the novels: how popular was/is it?  When was it the most popular?  Have you participated in it?  What do patrticipants DO?  And, most importanly, what are your ideas about how participating in this particular entry point into the Potterverse shapes/changes/broadens/ruins? a reader's experience with the books themselves.

 

You and your partner(s) will then create a podcast, PowerPoint, Prezi, or other media presentation to show the honors portion of the class your findings and ideas by .  The presentation should last between 10-15 minutes.

Rubric for this assignment:  You'll be graded based on how your presentation:

15%    Sticks within the time guidelines, is organized, and requires both/all people to participate equally

20%    Brings in interesting, relevant information about the assignmed topic (go into detail when the details are interesting and relevant or important)

25%    Presents information in a podcast, PowerPoint, Prezi, or other media in a visually pleasing or entertaining way; demonstrates few or no errors of grammar, punctuation, or mechanics

40%    Delves into an analysis of how this particular entry point into the Potterverse has the capacity to shape/change/broaden/ruin a reader's experience with the books.  You might also add analysis of recent trends with this entry point.
